Dylan Cervantes is a wrestler and artist from Whittier, California. While still in high school, Dylan began losing his vision and was later diagnosed with Leber hereditary optic neuropathy, eventually becoming legally blind. The circumstances changed quickly. His desire to compete, create and keep moving did not.

For this edition of Pirate Art Editorial, we spent time with Dylan inside the gym, around Whittier, at the record shop and with his sketchbook. Wrestling remains central to his life, alongside jiu-jitsu, music and drawing. He works close to the page, often returning to portraits even as faces have become increasingly difficult for him to see. His story is less about what was taken away and more about the way he continues forward, adapting without abandoning the things that matter to him
